World Chefs without Borders

World Chefs without Borders was established to harness the resources of the global network of chefs for humanitarian work.

Started in 2009, WCWB have been active in all parts of the world, from South Africa to Asia. Today, it is led by Chairman Chef Willment Leong from Thailand. Willment who played a pivotal role in leading the Thai Chefs Association to help his country deal with the aftermath of the Tsunami through relief programmes in Bangkok.

In June the WCWB turned their attention to Myanmar. With a very ambitious and challenging programme to be achieved over a period of less than one week. Coordination and detailed planning was essential as this valiant band of chefs set out to hold a Culinary Competition and a Gala Fundraising Dinner in a Country with limited resources A special category within the culinary competition was set aside. Entrants in this category had to be blind cooks. We will meet these blind Cooks a little later in our story.

The organizing committee was led by Willment Leong ably assisted by Oliver Esser (President Myanmar Chefs Association) also Chef Tony Khoo and Mrs.Khime Khet Khet Khaimo. As with events such as these there were many others who pitched in and contributed to the successful outcome. As our story unfolds you will see a splendid photograph of many of these volunteers as they celebrate a job well done.

A total combined amount of $12,600 USD had been raised after deducting all expenses from 17 June 2014 Gala Dinner Event at The Park Royal Hotel, Yangon. $3,500 USD goes to WXWB Global Fund from Myanmar Union Minister of Hotels and Tourism and the balance of $9,100 USD goes to Myanmar Charity Group.
